~ Happy Holidays from the Kyans! ~

As we approach the end of 2024, the Kyans take the opportunity to reflect on the positive experiences and achievements of the past few months. And what crazy fun adventures we have had! We’ve flown from all the major London airports (at least once!) to many cities across four countries; showcased our music in over 30 concerts at various venues; and gained invaluable insights from several exceptional coaches we have met along the way. We cherished our moments of rest when we could, filling quiet evenings and long train rides with numerous rounds of our favorite card games. It brought us great joy as well to recognise some familiar faces amongst our audience members this past Autumn, and we are so excited to share with you our concert schedule for 2025. But first, let's take a look at some highlights from 2024!

BEETHOVEN MASTERCLASS IN BONN WITH THE BELCEA QUARTET

Participating in September's International Beethoven Masterclass Programme in Bonn was an impactful experience, where we dedicated all of our time to learning Beethoven’s 2nd Razumovsky String Quartet, Op. 59 No. 2. Being mentored by the Belcea Quartet (lovely picture of all of us above!), one of our favourite quartets, was both inspiring and a bit surreal! We greatly appreciated their wisdom and guidance - what better set of extra ears could you ask for during a soundcheck before a final performance? The opportunity to perform in front of such discerning listeners during our coachings, masterclasses, and concerts added an extra layer of excitement to our development.

The course allowed us to explore Beethoven's hometown. We saw old portraits of him, the viola he used, and even took a peak at some of his original manuscripts, thanks to the Beethoven Haus! We were delighted to reunite with some colleagues from the past (Kandinsky and Velvet Quartets) and even meet some new ones too (Quarteto Iberia)! Special thanks as well to Ursula Timmer-Fontani, who has been in charge of organising these masterclasses for many years. ESPRESSO MASTERCLASS AT CASSINE, ITALY

After a brief detour back to London (and a little coffee break), the Kyans then set their sights on Italy! One flight and three trains later, we arrived at the beautiful town of Cassine. We spent the following days alongside the Dore and Hera Quartets and studied intensively with our coaches: Arben Llozi, Kyril Zlotnikov, and Simone Gramaglia. In the beautifully painted house of the residency, quartets could be heard playing from every room. After many cups of coffee and wonderful Italian home-cooked meals, the Kyans were ready to return back to autumnal London.

We could not be more grateful for this opportunity provided by Le Dimore del Quartetto and the Espresso Masterclass Course. Even more heartfelt thanks goes to Maddalena Martino, Erika Checchin, and to all those behind the scenes of the programme for the warm welcome and all of the unseen work that gets done for opportunities like these to exist!

CONCERTS, CONCERTS, AND MORE CONCERTS!

And of course, we cannot forget to mention what a joy it has been to perform for all of you in the many concerts we have given throughout this entire year! Here are some action shots, including a few behind-the-scenes highlights.

FINAL CONCERT: CONWAY HALL

We performed our final recital of the year with our concert debut at Conway Hall, sharing works by Shaw, Schumann, and Beethoven. To have our final performance in London seemed like the perfect way to wrap up our season’s travels. The fabulous picture above was captured by the wonderful Ray Palo - we love the onstage energy he captures in a single shot, and could not be more grateful. Thank you Ray!
 

CHRISTMAS TIME IN SALZBURG

Last but by no means least, we got into the Christmas spirit at Salzburg's Christmas markets, replete with mugs of mulled wine and hearty bratwurst to keep us warm and happy as we snuck around buying our Kyan Secret Santa presents. We all hope you enjoy the rest of the holiday season, and we cannot wait to send more exciting updates your way. Cheers to a fulfilling 2024, and an even more vibrant 2025!
